Blowholes Reserves Update

Following the issuing of building orders earlier this year, some shack owners lodged an appeal with the State Administrative Tribunal (SAT) disputing the validity of the orders. A SAT mediation session was held on 2 November 2022 and a draft mediation proposal was prepared for Council’s consideration.

Council resolved that it would follow the process set out in the Council and State Government endorsed Blowholes Reserves Management Plan (BRMP) 2014-2036 which outlines proper planning and management of the Blowholes Reserves.

“This Council is committed to proper planning and following due process to ensure that our community gets the best outcome,” said Shire of Carnarvon President Cr Eddie Smith. “The Shire looks forward to proceeding with the implementation of the Blowholes Reserves Management Plan and seeing residents and visitors enjoy what the Blowholes Reserve has to offer in a fair and equitable manner.”

The date of the hearing is yet to be confirmed. The Shire will keep the community informed of any updates through the Shire of Carnarvon’s website.
