Community engagement session planned to review Council Wards

Published on Tuesday, 9 August 2022 at 11:44:17 AM

The Shire of Carnarvon is pleased to announce that we are hosting a session to talk about the current ward review we are required to do, as well as any other topics you may think is of interest to our community. This comes after a well-supported community engagement event last week in Coral Bay.

Moreover, the Shire of Carnarvon will be hosting monthly community engagement sessions to improve trust between the community and the Shire, which aligns with the Community Jury’s request from our Strategic Community Plan engagement workshops.

Details

When: Thursday 11 August 2022

Time: 5pm

Where: Council Chambers Reception, Stuart Street, Carnarvon

This session will be live-streamed to our Facebook page to enable virtual participation. Please contact the Shire via shire@carnarvon.wa.gov.au for more information about accessing the live stream.

The Shire is required to conduct a review of its wards and representation every 8 years. Ward boundaries and the number of offices of councillor for each ward will be reviewed against the following five factors:

  • Community of interest
  • Physical and topographic features
  • Demographic trends
  • Economic factors
  • Ratio of councillors to electors in the various wards.

A discussion paper is available outlining the current situation and several alternative ward structures. Please visit the Shire of Carnarvon website to review Wards and Representation discussion papers: www.carnarvon.wa.gov.au/publicnotices/review-of-wards-and-representation/49

Public submissions on the Wards and Representation are invited from interested members of the community and other stakeholders.

We will also discuss what the community would like to see covered in future sessions and the days and times that are most suitable.
