Mosquito Fogging

PUBLIC NOTICE - FOGGING TO OCCUR Friday 15 April 2022

The Shire of Carnarvon is preparing to conduct street fogging TONIGHT, Friday 15 April 2022, pending calm weather conditions, in South Carnarvon to Morgantown. Fogging will occur after sunset.

Please refer to the map indicating locations near the airport gully. The standing water in these areas has also been treated to prevent further adult mosquito breeding and the fogging is hoped to ease the existing adult mosquitoes near these areas. Additionally, the ponding near the corner of Beckett and McNish St is in the process of being drained.

People with bee hives in this area are asked to notify the location of their bee hives by emailing mosquito@carnarvon.wa.gov.au so these areas won’t get fogged. People in these areas who notified us last year will be contacted. Please let us know if you would like to be included in the fogging mail list, by emailing mosquito@carnarvon.wa.gov.au

The proposed chemical is Twilight ULV which is a similar insecticide to most household fly sprays but designed for ultra-low volume street spraying operations with no residual effect. It acts by killing insects on the wing as they fly through the fog and can only be done in low wind conditions.

Residents are also asked to check their own properties for water ponding after the recent rains, to drain if possible or otherwise ensure mosquitoes are not breeding. Ponds with fish and chlorinated swimming pools should not be a problem. Water tanks with regular turn over should also not admit mosquito breeding. Outdoor fish ponds in the proposed fogging area should be temporarily covered during street fogging.
